Zimbabwean dies in Mozambique ISIS attack

Following an attack by Islamic State-linked insurgents on the coastal town of Palma in northeast Mozambique, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has confirmed that one Zimbabwean remains missing.

On March 24, 2021, the rebels known in Mozambique as al-Shabab assaulted Palma. As a result of the attack, more than 35,000 people are said to have been displaced. As the rebels fled, dozens of civilians were killed. The streets are littered with beheaded bodies.

Ambassador Lovemore Mazemo, the Acting Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, announced that one Zimbabwean is yet to be found after inquiries by the Zimbabwean Embassy in Mozambique.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a denial, which Harare Sun is publishing in its entirety.
